GARDAÍ IN BLANCHARDSTOWN are investigating, after a man attempted to shoot convicted drug dealer John Gilligan.

It happened yesterday afternoon at around 4pm at the Halfway House pub on the Navan Road.

According to gardaí, a man in motorcycle gear entered the premises and walked around "looking for someone".

It's understood the man shouted "where's Gilligan" as he rushed around the bar.

The man left, and was intercepted on the road by a Garda patrol car, and officers attempted to stop his motorcycle on the Ratoath Road in Finglas.

According to a garda spokesman: "The driver was seen discarding a firearm and fleeing the scene".

A 9mm pistol was recovered, and has been taken for forensic tests.

Gardaí have been interviewing witnesses and carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area, and CCTV from the pub — a landmark on the Navan Road — is also being examined
