Further reports of bogus Council collectors
Added: 17-12-2013 15:27:02Donegal County is calling on people to be extra vigilant following reports of bogus collectors in the Letterkenny electoral area.
A man and woman called to the home of a Council tenant on Friday evening claiming he owed rent arrears of €1,400. They demanded that it be paid immediately. A spokesperson for Donegal County Council said the Council had asked the person to report this matter to the Gardai.
Several weeks ago bogus collectors called on a business in the Lifford area demanding money. They had a letter with the Donegal County Crest. No money was handed over on that occasion either.
Donegal County Council wish to inform members of the public that Council staff carry identification badges at all times. It is unusual and only in limited circumstances that staff will call to a home or business owner with prior engagement or appointment
