A letter to the 31 Councillors in Mayo

Dear Councillor,

I am writing to you to ask for your help on behalf of the disabled community of Mayo. As you may be aware 8-10% of the population have a disablility of one form or another. Each one of us knows of someone close to us who has some form of disability.

You can help by supporting and calling for the implementation of the Barcelona Committee Declaration to which the council signed up to in 2002. The Declaratioin requires to the Council to produce a plan for the implementation of the Declaration and to establish structures for ongoing consultation with people with disabilities and their representatives.

But the declaration is more than plans and consultation it should be improved access, improved facilities and improved quality of life for Mayo’s disabled. I ask for your support in ensuring that your local town, village and community is being developed in accordance with the Barcelona Declaration.

I would appreciate a chance to discuss with you how to make life better for the disabled in Mayo. Please do not hesitate to contact me at thomaschambers@eircom.net or call me on 098 41545 or 086 3552047.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely
