Busy Castlebar road to get three pedestrian crossings

Deputy Mayor of Castlebar, and Chairperson of Iompar Castlebar, Thérèse Ruane, has welcomed Mayo County Council’s commitment this week to putting in place three new pedestrian crossings on the Pontoon Road area of Castlebar in the coming weeks.

Cllr Therese Ruane, Deputy Mayor of Castlebar: new crossings are very welcome

Cllr Therese Ruane, Deputy Mayor of Castlebar: New crossings are very welcome and a step in the right direction.

Thérèse Ruane, Chairperson of Iompar Castlebar said: “As chairperson of Iompar Castlebar, a key priority for me is making Castlebar a more accessible, pedestrian-friendly town.

“We’re seeing the opening of a new crossing at Chapel Street at the beginning of this month. Now, we will finally see crossings in place in the coming weeks on the Pontoon Road: one at Lyons Shop, and two new crossings at the new junction at the Sacred Heart Hospital.

“These new crossings are very welcome and a step in the right direction.

“Iompar Castlebar has been working closely with Mayo County Council and Castlebar Town Council to put in place safe pedestrian and cycling routes throughout the town and this partnership approach is really showing results.

“Of course, pedestrian crossings are so badly needed in other areas of Castlebar and we in Iompar Castlebar will continue to lobby for more pedestrian crossings at other locations in the town so that Castlebar becomes a more accessible and better town for everyone to get around,” Cllr Ruane added
