Cllr Ruane is requesting that this new system be put in place on any relining, new markings or upgrading of roads in the town.
She is hopeful of the unaminous support of her colleagues for this motion, another step in the right direction for promoting cycling in the County Town.
Cllr. Thérèse Ruane said: “I’m very hopeful that this motion will receive the unanimous backing of Castlebar Town Council. We in Iompar Castlebar are working tirelessly to promote sustainable travel, including cylcing in Castlebar.
“Castlebar as a town has the potential to be a very cycle friendly town and the passing of this motion is just one more step in the right direction.”
“I’ve met with the engineer working on the soon to be opened Newport Link Road and I’ve been guaranteed that advanced stop lines for cyclists will be put in place at this junction.
“I am seeking the members of the council’s support that this will be the case throughout the town.”
“Castlebar is flat, without any major hills so it is particularly suited to cycling. We will continue to promote Castlebar as a cycle-friendly town.
