Dog license reminder sent to man dead five years

A man who died over five years ago received a dog license renewal reminder from Mayo County Council recently.
Fine Gael councillor Patsy O’Brien raised the matter at the recent Claremorris Electoral Area meeting.
Cllr O’Brien said the letter had caused his widow ‘stress and anxiety’ and she was at a loss to know how such a letter had been despatched to the address after such a period of time.
“I would ask the Council to look at the system in relation to updating it so that this won’t happen again. I can’t understand how this matter could have been left dormant for five and a half years and then resurface at this stage. I know we can all make mistakes and no harm was intended but the woman was very upset about this letter,” he said
