Dear Mr Chambers,
I refer to your email below.
As per email from Deirdre we here in Heuston do require passengers to be in attendance at least 30 – 40 minutes in advance. The reason for this is that at times we only have one staff member available to assist passengers for boarding and disembarking from trains and we want to make sure all passengers are accommodated.
We would also ask that passengers who need assistance wait in the customer services waiting area so no one is left behind.
Hope the above is of some help to you.
Yours sincerely,
Jacqueline Reid,
Senior Duty Officer,
Iarnrod Eireann /Irish Rail,
Heuston Station,
Dublin 8.

Many thanks for your reply.
I asked what happens if the staff refused to take a wheelchair user to the train and request an answer. We were led to believe that the time was 20 minutes before the train leaves the station. I have never been asked to be there 30 minutes before the train leaves.
Regards
Tom

Subject: Info
I have been asked by management in the National Rehab Hospital in Dun Laoghaire to give a talk to patients who are about to leave the hospital on traveling on trains and plains especially wheelchair users.
What i want to know is that if a wheelchair user came to the Customer Service area at Huston station at 6.15 pm and wanted to catch a train to Westport at 6.30 pm, can he/she be refused to be taken to the appropriate carriage and are the staff within their rights to tell the person that nobody tells them what to do.
I have travelled in other cities and always treated with respect.
Regards
Thomas Chambers
