rishman dies after collapsing during Scottish race

An Irishman has died after collapsing at a running event in Scotland.

Andrew Dunne (25), originally from Raheny in Dublin, fell ill during the final stages of the first Scottish Kilomathon event.

Mr Dunne, who had been living in Aberdeen, collapsed in the main street of the village of Kirkliston, near Edinburgh, during the 16-mile race.

He was treated at the scene but died later at St John's Hospital in Livingston.

Police have contacted his family and the organisers of the race, GSi Events, sent their deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances and a report would be sent to Scotland's public prosecutor.

The race began at 8am at the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston and finished at the same place.

The 16-mile race is considered a stepping stone between a half-marathon and marathon
