Katherine Lynch is set to take on a new challenge this autumn after landing her own comedy chatshow on RTE.

The Herald can reveal how the popular comedienne, who is famed for her portrayal of a number of off-the-wall characters including Traveller Bernie Walsh, Leitrim-based Liz Hurley and man-mad Sheila Chic, is currently putting the final touches to the new series called Wagon's Den.

The programme will see Katherine assume the character of Tallaght divorcee Sheila Chic on a fulltime basis as she teams up with winner of Ultimate Big Brother, Brian Dowling, to put guests through their paces.

"I'm very excited about it as it's a completely new and fresh challenge for me," Katherine explained. "It's going to be a late-night show hosted by Sheila Chic, where she will give her wacky slant on celebrities.

    feisty

"It will be on after Desperate Housewives on a Tuesday night and it's going to be fun and totally cheesy.

"Basically myself aka Sheila and my co-host Brian Dowling will be talking to a panel of guests every week about different topics. We're going to rotate a selection of women and they will definitely be really feisty characters.

"I'm looking forward to working with Brian as he's a lovely guy and very good with women."

The programme will also feature one hunky male as a special guest each week, with Katherine remaining tight-lipped for now about the identity of her interviewees.

The Leitrim lady is adamant that the new show will not spell the end for the rest of her characters from previous RTE series' Wonderwomen and Single Ladies.

Katherine explained how she is still working on developing concepts for the station and says she hopes to return to the small screen next year with another series featuring all her acts.

"It's more of a transition period," she explained. "I'm still working away on other things and the rest of the girls will be back.

"This is just a new direction for me and it made sense to have the focus on just one character, in this case Sheila Chic," she added.

Katherine's The Hack Of Ya tour comes to Vicar Street on December 9, 10 and 12, with tickets available now for €28
