02. CATCH A GLIMPSE OF STRIKING FOLK ART BEFORE EXHIBITION ENDS
Return to the Land of Youth: The folk art paintings of Seán Ó Séadhacháin (1901-1991)
This folk art exhibition is composed of the country life paintings of Seán Ó Séadhacháin (1901-1991). These paintings were acquired by the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life in 2011. They give a special insight into many of the farm and country life practices that are on exhibition in the Museum of Country Life. This exhibition will close on the 9th December.
03. SANTA CLAUS & HIS ELVES MAKE A WELCOME RETURN TO THE MUSEUM!
Visit the Museum on Saturday 15 November for a jam-packed day of family-fun. Workshops, festive tunes and a visit to see Santa and his elves will make this a day to remember for all the family. Santa and his elves will be waiting in the Hearth & Home section of the Museum to meet children and their Mammies & Daddies (12-2.30pm). Free tea/coffee for adults & hot chocolate/juice for children (courtesy of Brambles, Museum Café). Workshops for children and traditional tunes for all ages in the Museum Galleries (2-5pm). 04. PUBLIC PROGRAMME

Saturday 1st December: 3.00 – 5.00pm.
Drop-in Activity: Play that Tune! Adults.
Join our trad music group on the first Saturday of the month. No booking required.
Friday 7th December: 11.00am – 1.00pm.
Drop-in Activity: Knitting Circle – Winter Woolly Warmers. Adults and children 7yrs+
Update your style for the Winter months. Knitting is for everyone! Starter kits for kids available. Join us for fun, chat and learn a skill for life. No booking required.
Saturday 8th December: 11.00am – 1.00pm: Drop-in Activity: Get Ready of the 'Gathering' 2013. Adults.
If you have an interest in finding out about your family history come along for free practical tips with the Mayo Genealogy Group. No booking required. New researchers welcome.
Sunday 9th December: 3.00 – 3.45pm: Performance: 'Tis the Season…' All Ages.
Castlebar Gospel Choir will bring their wonderfully uplifting music to the museum. Share their own take on some festive favourites. A fantastic family occasion for all ages. No booking required.
Friday 14th December: 3.00 – 4.00pm: Performance: Christmas Carols. All Ages.
Get in the Christmas spirit and join the 'Foxford National School Band' for our annual traditional carol singing. No booking required.
Saturday 15th December: Christmas Family Day with special appearance by Santa Claus & his Elves. All Ages.
12-2.30pm: Santa Claus & his Elves make a very welcome return to the Museum. Meet Santa & his Elves in the traditional hearth section of the Museum Galleries. Admission €2 per child. Tickets available from 11.30am in Museum Reception. Free tea/coffee for adults & free hot chocolate/carton of juice for children (special offer available on presentation of Santa ticket. 2-5pm: Guess the weight of the Christmas cake competition.
2pm: Help us decorate the museum Christmas tree with a variety of Christmas decoration workshops. Age 7+
3pm: 'A Little Donkeys Christmas' workshop for juniors. Age 4-6.
4pm: Tunes from the Music Circle. All ages.

Music Workshop: Rural Rapping, Rhymes & Chimes. Learn about farming long ago through rhythm, persussion and composition with Mary Curran. 4th – 6th class Music & History.
Primary & Post Primary: Friday 25th January: 11.30am – 12.30pm
Tour & Workshop: Discover Old Buildings.
Learn about traditional building materials and techniques. Followed by a workshop with Rory O'Shaughnessy on how to survey and draw an old building. 3rd – 6th class: History, Geography & Maths. Junior & Senior Cycle: Geography & History

ONSIGHT COMMUNITY ARTS PROGRAMME
Come along to the Museum and see the creative outcomes from the hugely successful ONSIGHT programme which
took place in the Museum grounds this summer. The Museum Café is the location for the ONSIGHT Community Arts
exhibition which features the artistic fruits of the ONSIGHT Art Workshops which took place from May until August in the Museum. See some striking installations from the project which are located throughout the Museum grounds. Further details: http://www.museum.ie/en/list/project-onsight.aspx

www.ouririshheritage.org features articles on local history and heritage from around the country. Anyone with an interest in their local area can contribute to this website which, it is hoped, will eventually reflect the local history of the island of Ireland. Groups and organisations are welcome to promote their cultural and heritage events via the online events form.
