Subject: [CEUD-ICT] Project using peer supports to build digital skillsamong people with disabilities

Dear all,

Some information about a new European project NCBI is coordinating around digital skills building among people with disabilities. If anyone is interested in becoming involved in this initiative or simply finding out more, please contact us.

People with disabilities face significant barriers to access training in digital literacy which is essential for education and employment. Furthermore, the traditional model of delivering digital literacy skills to people with disabilities through the provision of centre-based training is becoming unsustainable, due to a massive increase in the demand for digital skills and rapid changes in online and mobile technologies. DICE (Digital Inclu! sion Champions in Europe), an EU-funded Lifelong Learning project co-ordinated by NCBI, aims to address this issue through the creation of a peer support community, promoted and sustained by Digital Inclusion Champions to support service users, training providers, mainstream educators and employers.

At the heart of DICE is engagement with people with disabilities and the individuals and organizations in the community that work with them. To ensure that we involve a wide range of stakeholders, we are reaching out to national organizations from the outset of the project to collaborate with us.

The aim is that the DICE on-line peer support community will enhance and extend the training and support available from VET centres and will create a bridge from digital skills development to mainstream education and employment.
  • Do you know or work with people with disab! ilities in the community that could use additional support in using&nb sp;mainstream or assistive technologies?
  • Are you a VET trainer or mainstream educator that could benefit from additional support from other educators who work with people with disabilities?
  • Are you an employer who works with people with disabilities who would like extra support for your company in helping employees with disabilities with their digital access issues?
  • Are you an NGO that would benefit from linking with disability organizations that may have more experience with assistive technology training and issues around digital technologies?
We would like to hear from you and invite you to visit our (work-in-progress) website http://dice-project.eu/ for more information on the project and to take part in our anonymous on-line questionnaire. Looking forward to welcoming you to the DICE community!
