mattress

To Whom It May Concern,

I am a wheelchair user for the last 32 years, and I wish to make a complaint regarding the removal of a special design mattress from my home in 2012.

In mid-August 2012, following a conversation with the Public Health Nurse, it was agreed that my Quartro Plus mattress would be collected from my house by Homecare Medical for maintenance/repair and then to be returned. However, despite many phone calls, conversations and representations to the HSE this mattress has not been returned to my home. Furthermore, a replacement mattress delivered in November 2012 was totally unsuitable – for example I am unable to balance myself correctly on it in the morning in order to dress etc.

Homecare Medical removed the mattress from my house and it would appear that there is no paper record of its removal or subsequent whereabouts! As Homecare Medical was funded by the HSE to supply the mattress, I believe that the HSE also have a responsibility in this matter.

In June 2013 I was discharged from hospital on assurances given to hospital staff that a suitable mattress had been delivered to my house. Again this mattress was not suitable. In June 2013 I had a telephone conversion with Store Manager in Mayo General , and in July 2013 I received a visit from my Occupational Therapist and nurse concerning this issue.

In summary I would like you to investigate my complaint, ascertain what happened to my Quartro Plus mattress, where is it now? Furthermore, how come Homecare Medical has no record on removing my mattress?

Finally, I have been in contact with Keaney Medical Ltd in Dublin (tel 01 4596585) and they can supply the same Quartro Plus (made to order) mattress – all it requires is that the Public Health Nurse liaise with them, and for the HSE to approve the purchase.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Chambers,

Newport
